SKG London | Timber Sliding Doors (SF65)

Timber Sliding Doors

The SUNFLEX SF65 Timber Sliding Doors system is one of the newest editions to our range. Unlike other solid Wooden Sliding Doors the Sunflex SF65 system is manufactured using triple solid timber sections, this prevents the warping and twisting associated with cheaper timber doors.

All timber is sourced from sustainable forests; standard timbers include Pine (knot free softwood) and Meranti (hardwood) while other timbers such as American White Oak and European Oak are avaliable on request.

Specification

Dimensions

We do not recommend panel widths do not exceed 1800mm and a maximum height of 2800mm. Heights greater than this can be achieved, please contact our technical department for advice.

Operating system

The Sunflex SF65 is a bottom running Timber Sliding Doors system, consisting of wheels which are manufactured from tough glass fibre reinforced polyamide set around a maintenance-free sealed bearing, giving quiet smooth operation.

The wheels of the running mechanism run in a channel in the sides of the track rather than sitting directly on the bottom, unlike many inferior systems, minimising the risk of the operating system fouling should any dirt or debris be allowed to build up in the bottom of the track.

Track options

There are two choices of track on our Wooden Sliding Doors system; a standard stepped track for a severe weather rated system or an aluminium flush track recessed into the floor. This provides a level walkthrough with an uninterrupted floor finish.

Our recessed aluminium track can be used to achieve a flush finish both internally and externally. Suitable for use with decking, paving slabs or tiles this track helps to merge the divide between inside and out.

In any exposed location we would always recommend the use of a weathered track. When used with an outward opening door a weathered track can be fully recessed below your internal floor level meaning that there is no threshold to trip over, just a step down to the outside.

Furniture

Handles and hinges are made of cast alloy, handles are sprung-loaded and flush-fitted to enable door panels to stack flat when fully opened. Optional lever handles are available upon request for single access door or lead doors.

Security

Incorporating a full length aluminium reinforced interlock between panels, therefore makes it impossible to lever the panels from their tracks, the standard locking offers a very high level of security whilst providing quick, smooth and easy operation. It consists of a two-point top and bottom shoot bolt mechanism, which is incorporated into the framework and locked into position by a five-lever profile cylinder, meeting the requirements of the Association of British Insurers. For improved security all Sunflex systems are internally glazed as standard.

Ventilation

Trickle vents of either 2500mm2 or 5000mm2 can also be incorporated with the addition of a 40mm add-on head profile to satisfy building regulations Download head details

Pricing

We strongly believe the Timber Sliding Doors require specialist installation. We are frequently contacted by clients experiencing problems with doors installed incorrectly by builders or inexperienced glazing companies. For this reason we no longer provide wooden wooden folding doors on a supply only basis, we feel that without control over the quality of the installation we are at risk of putting our company and our suppliers reputation at risk.

The prices below are meant as a guide only, for a more detailed quote please contact us or complete our online estimate form.

Glass

What is a U-Value

A U-value is the measurement of the amount of the rate of heat loss through a material. The value is calculated as heat lost per hour per square metre (W/m2K); a low U-value therefore indicates a more thermally efficient building material.

Document L (Document J in Scotland) is part of the Government’s Building Regulations. Revised October 2010, following the Regulatory Impact Assessment, which controls the acceptable U-value of your home – in general terms, an average U-value of 1.8W/m2K is now required.

All new housing and replacement doors and windows must comply with Document L (Document J in Scotland), unless specifically excluded. If you are planning any new building or renovation work, it is always advisable to contact your local planning office for advice on how the building regulations affect you and your project. Although SKG London can offer general help and assistance based on past experience, we are not an authority on the building regulations and are unable to offer professional advice.

Low ‘e’ (Emissivity) glass

Our standard quotation includes the application of low ‘e’ (emissivity) to the inside of the inner pane that reduces the amount of heat loss through the glass. In addition, an inert argon gas can be added to the cavity between the glass sheets, thereby reducing the u-value by a further 0.15W/m2K. A ‘soft coat’ low ‘e’ (emissivity) glass represents a revolutionary development in so far as improved thermal performance providing an environmentally friendly solution, given the lower CO2 emissions associated with reduced energy consumption and a considerable reduction in heating bills, when compared to the tradition ‘hard coat’ low ‘e’ glass.

Warm edge spacer

Our standard quotation also includes warm edge spacer. Up to 80% of energy loss through a window occurs due to the spacer bar being a conductive material, a warm edge spacer reduces these thermal heat losses which is good news to the environment and even better news to you, further benefits include up to 70% reduction in condensation and improved noise reduction.

Solar control or comfort glass

The sun can make glass roofs, conservatories or south facing elevations quite unbearable in the depths of the summer months like stepping into a greenhouse. A solar control glass is a glass with a special coating designed to reduce the amount of heat entering a building. It reflects and absorbs heat as well as filtering light for reduced glare. Using a solar control glass can reduce the need for air conditioning and blinds. Please ask for further details.

Toughened glass

We include as standard a double-glazed unit comprising of 4mm toughened glass complying with BS6206. The glass has been heat hardened (tempered), increasing its strength over ordinary annealed glass by up five times. There is also an added advantage that, should it break, it would shatter into hundreds of tiny non-sharp fragments.

Laminated glass

The benefit of laminated glass is that, if broken, the glass cracks while still remaining attached to the plastic interlayer rather than falling and possibly causing injury; it also provides secure protection from unwanted visitors. In addition, laminated glass reduces bleaching of carpets, curtains and furniture by reducing the amount of ultra-violet rays that penetrate the glass.

Improved visual qualities

Due to the heat-tempering process used, 4mm toughened glass can sometimes suffer a slight visual rippled distortion. Although this is acceptable under British Standards, using 6mm toughened glass helps to reduce this distortion or 6.4mm clear laminate will eliminate the distortion altogether.

Blinds

As specialist installers we have the experience, product knowledge and technical skills to ensure that your project runs smoothly and on schedule. We strongly believe that an important aspect to providing a high level of customer satisfaction is to minimise the number of different individuals you deal with throughout your order. On single and multi-orders you will be assigned a maximum of 2 contact people who will be assigned your contract and will assist you from initial estimate through to final installation and after sales.

Providing a quotation

We are able to provide a fast turnaround in preparing a quotation. For single and multi orders we will only require opening dimensions, these can be provided via our online estimate form, e-mail, telephone or fax.

We will provide you with the required technical information including detailed drawings of track, head and frame dimensions. We can arrange to visit you on site or you can visit our showroom to run through specification and the options available.
